Brief information: Most of the accommodation in Sparta is in the form of corridor rooms, but on the ground floor there are 16 apartments (4 singles, 8 three-room apartments, and 4 four-room apartments) which are suitable for adaptation to use by the handicapped. One of these apartments was inspected. These ground-floor apartments are covered by a special notice clause which gives AF Bostäder the right to terminate the rental contract in favour of a handicapped student with 3 months notice. Sparta is close to Lund Technical University, The School of Economics, and Ideon, and is approximately 2 km from Lund city centre. Sparta has approx 550 residences.

1.1 Access to building from outside
There is a good possibility of providing car-parking near apartment entrances.
1.2 Access inside the building
There are asphalt humps in front of the entrance door and the gradient up to the door means that wheelchair users must stop on an upward slope to open or close the door.
1.3 Movement within the building
Accessibility within the building is good.
1.4 Laundry, storage, refuse-handling
The laundry is in the basement and is accessible only by a steep ramp from the garage floor.
1.5 Kitchen
Apartments are specially adapted for persons in wheelchairs.
1.6 Accommodation
The toilet area is accessible.
2.1 Footpath
Footpath surfaces are buckled. There are few existing cycle racks and unfortunately cycles tend to be left wherever people can find space. In addition, cycle racks are located on footpaths, creating problems for both visually and mobility impaired people.
2.2 Ramp, slopes
The ramp down to the ICA store is long with a steep slope and it can be difficult to get up the ramp with a manually-operated wheelchair. Lifts in the building can be used to get to apartment and thus avoid the ramp.
2.3 Lifts, platform lifts
There are lifts, but they are closed at 22:00.
2.4 Interior doors
There is adequate space in front of doors.
2.5 Measures for safe access
The upper and lower steps do not have contrasting marking. In addition, there is an unmarked change in level (of about 1 m) in the extension of the footpath at the laundry, which especially needs to be marked for the visually impaired.
2.6 Design to facilitate orientation
The contrast between interior doors and surrounding walls is good.
2.7 Summary
The apartment that was inspected had been adapted for a person in wheelchair. Personal assistance may be necessary to use the laundry.
