HEATING IN YOUR HOME
AF Bostäder’s heating policy
By keeping the environment in focus, AF Bostäder shall be able to provide homes and properties with a good indoor climate. Our aim is to provide at least 20°C during the day and 18-20°C at night, between the hours of 22.00-06.00.
Our policy has been created in order to optimise comfort and economy, since a large part of AF Bostäder’s costs, and hence your rent, are due to heating costs.
Your heating is controlled by thermostatic valves
The heating in your apartment comes from hot water that circulates through the radiators. A thermostatic valve on each radiator ensures that the correct amount of hot water is circulated in relation to the temperature in the room.
You can control the temperature in the room by turning the thermostatic valve and thereby increasing or decreasing the water circulating in the radiator. However, the heating system is limited to a maximum of about 20 degrees, in line with our heating policy.
When the cold weather arrives, one can sometimes experience a somewhat colder indoor climate and the radiators may not appear to produce any heat. It is then important to check the temperature with a thermometer, since the radiators do not start to get hot until the room temperature has fallen below 20 degrees, irrespective of the outdoor temperature and the temperature of the radiator.
Air your rooms properly
Air your rooms efficiently and for only a short period, or shut off the thermostatic valve when you air. The cold air from a window that is ajar will influence the thermostatic valve. It will allow more hot water to circulate in the radiator without actually increasing the indoor temperature and a large amount of energy will be wasted.
Ventilation
Ventilation is necessary for a healthy indoor environment. The volume of air, etc. is regulated by law and is checked at regular intervals. The ventilation system in a home can be designed in different ways, but there is often an air extractor in the form of a cooker hood, fan or ventilation unit in kitchens and bathrooms. Fresh air is often introduced through vents in outer walls or under windows.
During the cold part of the year, draughts may be felt from the fresh air vents, but the vents are located to provide the best possible ventilation in the home. Do not block or cover vents, otherwise air will enter through other openings and upset the indoor climate and the fine adjustments that have been made to ensure correct air exchange.
Do not block or cover the radiators
The thermostatic valve will only work if there is free air circulation around it. One should therefore not place sofas or hang heavy curtains close to thermostatic valves or in front of radiators.
If your heating stops working
If a room gets too cold, a fault may have occurred.
Check if the indoor temperature is less than 20 degrees. To do this, place a thermometer at about 1 m height in the middle of the apartment. Radiators shall be set to maximum and windows closed. Your caretaker can help you.
You should continue measuring for about 24 hours. If the temperature is considerably less than 20 degrees, you should make a fault report. It is important that you make a fault report so that we can rectify the problem, do not increase the temperature by operating electrical heaters or similar, these use more energy and more expensive energy, than the normal heating system.
